Paul Owen, Founder

“I started in sales late in life, aged 32 and broke, and it changed my life forever. Sales taught me to communicate better, to work harder and to stay in the game even when you feel all is lost. These aren’t just sales lessons; they’re life lessons.

When I started that first sales job on 4th December 2000, I was £30,000 in debt across 9 credit cards, sleeping on the floor of a friend’s back bedroom and earning £8,000pa doing a data admin job. Not where I’d hoped to be when I turned 32! I’d fallen in love that summer too, but lost her – I was in no fit state to be a life partner for anyone. I simply could not see a way out of the hole I was in.

4 years into my first sales job, I’d paid off all my debt, earned £100,000 in one year for the first time and bought my first property. I also won back the girl and she’s now my wife.

The world of sales and the skills it taught me completely and utterly changed my life.

It’s now my purpose to help others do exactly the same. That’s the mission of True Sales.”

Sales is misunderstood

Sales itself is misunderstood by most people, including many people in sales and even some of those managing salespeople. This misunderstanding is even worse in the millions of non-salespeople who spend 20-40% of their working week engaged in sales activities.

Skills are learnable

Sales skills are mistaken for natural gifts rather than learnable behaviours. This means we look for people with these gifts – they’re hard to find and everyone wants them! We would do better to recognise that real growth comes from hiring attitude and training sales skills.

Team Collaborating on Ideas

Enablement, not enforcement

We confuse enablement with commands, telling people what they should do rather than enabling them to perform. Leaders become frustrated: “I’ve told them what to do; they just don’t do it.” Nothing changes. Salespeople move on. It starts all over.

Mistaken beliefs about sales

What’s the True Sales difference?

We help people re-frame sales and understand how to do it consistently well. We give them the clarity and confidence to deliver sales activity consistently well in their own true sales voice.

Once you overcome the mistaken beliefs listed above, sales becomes a more attractive proposition, a skill you can learn and improve, and a route to a better career (and a better life).

All programmes are built on 5 foundations: Belief; Effectiveness; Enablement; Results; and Lifelong Learning.

True Sales - About us

Sales performance, sales management, sales training and sales coaching are all hampered by a set of mistaken beliefs. Without challenging these beliefs, real change is difficult.

BELIEF

True Sales Training and Coaching Programmes change people’s beliefs about sales. We allow people to see it in a new light, a better light, a light in which they feel better and look better. This leads them to improve performance whilst being happier, staying in the job and exceeding previous expectations. We are often thanked for changing people’s lives. Sounds mad. It isn’t.

EFFECTIVENESS

Everyone can be good at something sometimes and that’s no different in sales. But to be consistently good or great takes process and structure as well as an understanding of the foundational ingredients of success in sales. With the K.A.S.H. Profile, we give salespeople the frameworks and structures to be consistently successful. Structure doesn’t limit salespeople; it gives them freedom to be themselves within a consistent and repeatable framework. It’s the perfect balance of process and personality to boost performance.

ENABLEMENT

The number 1 mistake made in all sales leadership is to believe you make people better by just telling them how to be better. You don’t. We enable growth rather than commanding it.

The first step is engagement and our short, interactive training modules keep people interested and involved, using real-world practical examples alongside psychological insights, neurological research and behavioural economics. The ideas are proven and well-researched but delivered in a simple, practical style to enable quick understanding and implementation.

The second step is to help people incorporate new ideas into their sales conversations in their own style, helping them to find their true sales voice. We do this by giving them practical examples and allowing them time to develop and practise their own versions of the ideas we share.

RESULTS

Our track record of success over recent years (£100million of new client revenue in just 3 years with our training) gives evidence of the remarkable financial benefits enjoyed by our clients. But the results seen are more than just a revenue boost. People leave our training not just better equipped to sell successfully but feeling better about themselves.

Our training elevates and celebrates sales and its people – they leave with shoulders back and chests out: “I am proud of the work I do and the value I offer.” This, in itself, makes them better at the job. It also keeps them in the job (reducing churn) and makes them a more positive employee, lifting others around them.

We believe in the power of change, in the power of enablement and empowerment through improving sales skills and, through that, changing lives for the better. The results speak for themselves.

Working Together

LIFELONG LEARNING

Short hits of training can help people to improve performance; there is no doubt about that. But if you only have short hits, you won’t enjoy long-term improvement. This is true in the world of fitness, music, sport and business. And it’s no different in sales. If you spent 4 days in the gym and never went back, you’d feel great for a week or two but then feel no longer term benefit.

All training is the same. To improve over the long-term, you must commit to ongoing support of your sales teams. That’s why we offer ongoing sales coaching support to all clients and why we also provide templates and frameworks from the training to allow your internal teams to provide their support too.
