Many people in business sell, not just salespeople. Often, the non-salesperson who needs to sell faces a serious challenge: they’re uncomfortable selling.
If this sounds like you – or some of your colleagues – let’s try to help.
Check out the latest video where I give tips on an easy way to start selling for Non-sales people.
Unless you have the time and expertise to learn how to sell properly, then here is my suggestion, a relative quick-fix for the non-salesperson selling you need to do.
First, forget the concept of selling as you think of it today. And do these 3 things:
Get in the room - Start talking to your customers and potential clients. (this includes online ‘networking) with relevant people as often as possible
Change the focus - Ask them lots of questions about their business and their needs
Your Story - If and when relevant, don’t sell your products / services. Instead, explain why your company was created.
This will change your activity from ‘sales’ to ‘having conversations’, making you feel more comfortable.
At the same time, you’ll be finding out details about relevant people and companies without having to sell anything.
When you do talk about your company and why it exists, it’s much more interesting than ‘this is what we sell’. People are more likely to ask questions, turning it into an interactive conversation rather than a stand-and-deliver sales pitch.
The greatest mistake in sales is not to do it badly, but to fail to do it at all.
This idea should make it easier. Give it a go.
